October is a month where we traditionally give thanks. We set aside an entire weekend to celebrate the blessings in our lives. Our building focus during this month has been to try to “build” gratitude into every day.
First of all, we made a list of all of the things that our families are thankful for:
Next, we decided to find out how some of the senior residents in our community celebrate Thanksgiving so we visited Mountainview Village to interview them. Here are the questions that we asked:
Our time spent together with the residents was so rich! It turned an ordinary opportunity into a blessing!
This month we also worked on turning routine jobs into joy by creating beautiful poems while learning about alliteration. We had so much fun looking for magnificent new words that began with the same letter as the things for which we are thankful.
Finally, we have been taking time each day to thank God for the things that are good in our lives. We have also shared those with each other as we say goodbye at the end of a day. By building gratitude into our days we have seen how ordinary, common experiences can become celebrations of joy. You can read more of our “Alliterations of Thanks” on the classroom bulletin board.
