Building Generosity

We began the month of December with the question, “How can I show generosity without spending money?”  After a few moments of thought these words surfaced and were shared – a smile, time, friendship.  It was  a lovely segue into our Christmas visit to Mountainview Village where several students were reunited with a resident that they had met during our Thanksgiving visit.  It was heartwarming to see the excitement on the faces of the young and old as they recognized each other and were reconnected.

Another way that we decided to practice our generosity this December was by participating in the 12 Days of Christmas Kindness project.   Each day there was a new “kindness” project for us to do.

Random acts of kindness help us to see beyond our own needs to the needs of others.  Kindness also fosters gratitude, which brings joy!  As one of the students reflected, “It is important to be kind to others because it makes others happy and it makes you happy when you are kind.”

Giving compliment presents was another way that we developed our appreciation for others in our community.  Two of our Career Education BIG IDEAS this year are:

“Communities include many different roles requiring many different skills.”  and

“Confidence develops through the process of self-discovery.”

Recognizing skills within ourselves, as well as others, and appreciating those skills and strengths, was a great way to reinforce our #selfhood as well as our #belonging.

Our final act of building generosity will happen tomorrow as we open our Secret Santa gifts.

It has been so much fun to watch the excitement and suspense as the students snuck their gifts into the classroom and under the Christmas tree, or looked at the presents and wondered who might have had their name.  Revealing the giver of the gift will be an exciting time tomorrow as each student has a chance to demonstrate their generosity and gratitude.

Thank you, to each family, for your generosity in supporting our work and learning.  We are very grateful for your partnership and the role that you play at our #TableofLearning.  Wishing each of you a joyous Christmas Season as you celebrate the birth of Jesus.  May you experience His irresistible joy, indescribable peace, and incredible love.

“Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift!”  – 2 Corinthians 9:15
